How the Mount Washington Lions Club supports and connects our community

Fish Fry

Please make plans to join us for the Friday Fish Fry on the 2nd Friday of each month starting at 4:00 p.m. at our Mt. Washington Lions Club Fish Fry.

The Mt. Washington Lions Club is located at the Lions clubhouse at 810 North Bardstown Road in Mt. Washington, near the main firehouse in town.

Fabulous cod fish sandwiches and dinners until everything is sold (often by 6:00). Get a generous-size, fresh-cooked, hot meal and help support the community.

Payment by cash, check, or card.

Great fish! Also, tasty Pork Chops, hot dogs, brats, and kids' meals (hot dog, fries, and a drink) and a very special stars and stripes sweet shop so please come out and enjoy an evening with us.

Dare to Care

On the 3rd Saturday morning of each month, we will be hosting our Dare to Care food distribution at our Mt. Washington Lions Club located at 810 N. Bardstown Rd.

We absolutely love and need volunteers this to help us serve others. Service hours are available to our student volunteers.

Our truck usually arrives around 8:00 am. and we start setting up. Together "We Serve."

If you are in need of food, please come. Distribution starts at approximately 9:30 am, and we are usually done between 10:30 and 11 am. First come - first served.

Hunger is a heartbreaking reality for so many of our neighbors across Kentuckiana. We are supporting our community by providing food and pathways to address growing levels of food insecurity. Together, we can ensure everyone has access to the foods they need to thrive.

Vision Screening

The Lions Club vision screening initiative is a nationwide program that screens children from six months through grade 12 to identify vision issues early, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, amblyopia, and other eye conditions. The program emphasizes early detection because untreated vision problems in children can lead to permanent impairment and affect up to 80% of learning, which is visually based.

Lions volunteers use high-tech, touchless screening devices to provide accurate, rapid, and non-invasive screenings, producing immediate results and reducing the need for subjective eye chart tests. The program also ensures HIPAA-compliant documentation for sharing results with parents or guardians.

Eyeglass Assistance

If you are a Mount Washington resident in need of assistance obtaining an eye exam and prescription glasses, the Mount Washington Lions Club may be able to help. To qualify for support, applicants must meet the following guidelines:

• Financial need — The individual must demonstrate limited financial resources.

• No vision insurance — The individual must have no vision coverage or only minimal coverage.

• Complete application — An application must be filled out and submitted to the Mount Washington Lions Club.

• Verification of need — Applicants must provide documentation showing the need for prescription glasses.

• Monthly support documentation — Applicant must also provide documentation of monthly support. Examples include an income statement, food stamp letter, disability letter, paycheck stub, or similar records.

Eyeglass Recycling

The Mount Washington Lions Club has a dropbox to collect used eyeglasses. The glasses are shipped to the nearest Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center where they are sorted, cleaned, and the prescription strength determined. The glasses at the recycling center are carefully packaged and stored until they are required for eyeglass dispensing missions. Glasses that are not suitable for reuse are recycled for scrap, with the earnings benefiting local Lions and Leos projects.

American Flag Retirement

When an American flag becomes worn and no longer fit for display, it should be retired in accordance with the United States Flag Code. The Mount Washington Lions Club partners with local veteran organizations to collect and appropriately retire the flags. A dropbox is located outside the Lions Club.

Scholarships and Community Grants

The Mount Washington Lions Club awards several scholarships each year to Mount Washington high school graduates to further their education.

To serve the community, we partner with local government and community organizations to serve this community.

Red Cross Blood Drives

The Mount Washington Lions Club partners almost quarterly with the Red Cross each year. Come out and join us. Give blood. Help save lives.
